Sea kayaking in Tonga

The close proximity of the many small islands in the Northern Ha’apai group and short paddling distances presents an ideal opportunity for exploration by kayak. Hugging the coast you can paddle south from Lifuka to Uoleva, Tatafa, Luangahu and even as far as Uiha or you may travel north along Lifuka to Foa, Nukunamo and theneven across to Ha’ano.

Our kayaks (slightly more advanced than the local version shown above) are an excellent option for exploring outer reef systems snorkeling and free diving on your own schedule. They offer access to secluded beaches and deserted islands – it’s all waiting for you just a little paddle along the coast.

Sit-on fiberglass kayaks (1 Person)
Our two fiberglass kayaks are surf ski style and suitable for calm seas, short trips and day paddling. A small day pack and snorkeling gear can be lashed to the front and back. The boats do not possess storage areas for camping equipment etc. and we do not recommend them for lengthy open water crossings or multi day excursions. Great for accessing the outer reefs of Lifuka with your snorkeling gear. Max capacity 80Kg.
Kayak hire (per day) $ 30 00000000000

Necky "Kyook" sea kayak (1 person)
This kayak is perfect for the intermediate paddler. Measuring 4.4m long and 60cm at the beam, the boat is very stable, quick and responsive. With the attached rudder you have full control for longer trips. Hatches, bulkheads and a 136kg weight capacity allow plenty of room for gear and the compartments stay very dry at sea. To compliment the boat and for those wishing to undertake a multi-day excursion we have full sets of camping gear available. Some kayaking experience is preferable with this boat.

This kayak is very stable and provides an effortless glide through the ocean. She is suitable for beginner paddlers and is fitted with a rudder to conserve energy on longer trips. This kayak is the perfect choice for couples who want to escape to the solitude of a deserted tropical island. The boat features rear and bow stowage space.his inflatable kayak can carry 240Kg (two adults plus gear) but only weighs 12kg itself and can be carried by one person. Measuring 3.3m long and 90cm at the beam the boat is very stable and suitable for beginner paddlers. It has cargo space for camping supplies for several days. This Kayak can handle up to Class III whitewater. It has a self-bailing drain valve, very useful in ocean surf. Features an extra thick hull and inflatable spray skirts. Two molded skegs allow the boat to track smoothly and minimise paddling effort loss allowing you to go faster and further with less energy.
