Getting to Tonga

are several airlines that fly to Tongatapu´s
international airport Fua'amotu (TBU).
Air
New Zealand flies from New Zealand,
Australia and London (via Los Angeles and Samoa).
Pacific
Blue and Virgin
Blue fly from New Zealand and
Australia. Grab-A-Seat deals are available weekly
from NZ with return flights to Tonga including
NZ internals for under 500 dollars!
Air
Pacific flies from Australia,
Fiji and Los Angeles.
Getting to Ha'apai
Chathams
Pacific
connects Tongatapu´s domestic terminal
with Salote Pilolevu Airport, Ha'apai, every
day (except Sundays) for $144 to $179 one way.
Discounted air passes are also available. The
Fonu
(Turtle) Kingdom Pass, for example, allows you
to visit Ha'apai and 'Eua for T$390 return.
You´re best advised to take a taxi from
international to domestic terminal in Tongatapu.
The
new inter-island passenger ferry, MV Otuanga'ofa
(The Friendly Islands) has commenced commercial
services in the Kingdom. The 1,500 ton vessel,
a gift from Japan, can accommodate 400 passengers
and has a service speed of 12 knots. As always
with shipping in the Kingdom the idea of a schedule
remains wishful thinking, if you want to travel
by ferry just show up at the wharf and find
out whats happening! The journey to Ha'apai
from Nuku'alofa may last 8 to 10 hours and is
estimated to cost around T$55 one way.
