About us
Fins
'n' Flukes is owned and operated by Sabine Frank
and Brian Heagney.
Sabine
is a certified PADI Divemaster and as a professional
translator can assist you in German, English,
Spanish and French (très petit). She
has been diving in Ha'apai since 2007 and is
an accomplished assistant with students and
an experienced guide. Her favourite dive site
is Blake's Reef with its overwhelmingly pristine
corals and a great abundance of colourful reef
fish and pelagics.
Brian
is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer who holds
a degree in marine biology, a further professional
qualification in tropical habitat conservation
and a Master Engineer boat captain license.
Diving since 1995 he has spent the last three
years here in Ha'apai. Brian is always eager
to share his passion for diving and says, "The
joy I get from diving is learning something
new on each dive and sharing my knowledge of
the underwater world with anyone who expresses
an interest."
For
the 2011 season, Kaitlin and Tom have joined
our little team and we're happy to have them
on board.
Kaitlin
is a certified PADI Specialty Instructor and
has also worked as a lifeguard. She grew up
on the central coast of California and loves
being in, on and around the ocean. Kaitlin started
diving at the age of 16 and enjoys both cold
and warm water diving, although it can’t
be denied that the warmth of the tropics brings
beautiful corals and fish. Her favourite fish
is the lovely Orange Spine Unicornfish and she
loves slow, lazy dives.
Tom
is a certified Specialty Instructor, RYA Sailing
Instructor and holds his International Certificate
of Competence in both power and sailboats. He
grew up around boats and began diving in 2007
off the coast of Scotland and has been diving
in Fiji, California, Greece, Honduras, Indonesia
and Tonga. He loves the ocean and enjoys showing
people the wonders it has to offer as well as
how to look after it. By far, his favourite
fish is the slingjaw wrasse which, luckily,
is in abundance in Ha’apai.
Micky
is our very own scuba dog and due to her entertaining
character very popular with our guests. Being
a real island dog, she loves the beach and sometimes
even joins us on the boat to get some time off
from the office. She mastered the "Sleeping
in any environment" skill and is currently
in training for the "How not to bite a
car tire" specialty.
Brian
and Sabine run Fins 'n' Flukes in an environmentally
responsible way to try and protect the marine
environment they love so much in the best possible
way. To find out more about the way we operate,
please see our Environmental
policy page.
